Sad Week
It's been a rather sad week for us...two friends unexpectedly passed away within 2 days of each other and today was the memorial gathering and ashes scattering of our friend darrell who passed away in november.
Rather naturally, I suppose, I've been thinking about grief and the deep sadness that follows the loss of old friends...and while I want to honor that sadness I find myself also looking for the joy that was present while our friends were alive and trying to remember and feel that as well.
Today was a special gift for darrell since both yesterday and tomorrow are/will be cloudy and wet, but today was sunny and bright and a beautiful day to be on the beach. And later in the day I walked by the bay and watched some tiny ducks diving and splashing around and that was very soothing and calming to me. And the pussy willows and scotch broom are beginning to bloom.
Besides the reliquary and altar I think I might be ready to do a larger piece about our friendship.
Our other two friends are too recently gone for me to do anything but grieve...I hope that eventually I'll be able to make work about them too, that celebrates our years together.
I guess what the heron was saying to me was "patience...in time what you need will come to you".

Oh, Bobbi -- I can feel your deep sorrow through these eloquent words. Gotta keep remembering all the special times and the warmth of friendship to get you through this difficult time.
You will be in my thoughts . . .
Much love,
Kathy V in NM
It is difficult to comment on the loss of life. All anyone can say is the sorrow one has for you to experience this time. But to celebrate you lives together is wonderful. Nature does gives us hope of the continuation of life.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful tribute page today. Experiencing the grief of multiple losses takes time. I am so glad to hear how nature comforts and inspires you...Take care Bobbi. You are in my prayers.
Much love, Camilla
Bobbi,
I have a feeling that Darrell is there with you to share your grief. It is healing to look to the joy you shared with him and your other friends. Prayers and positive thoughts are winging their way to you.
Arline
Thank you all for your comforting posts...I feel myself moving along again after a very long time of being stuck in some sort of emotional limbo...
I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friends. Unfortunately we are of the age when this will start happening more frequently. It's a myth that everyone lives to be 80 or more but that myth kept us unprepared for reality. Still, we hope those we know and care about will be the ones to make it to 80. It seems some beadwork would help you work your way through your grief since you express yourself so well that way.
My condolences too, on the passing of your friends. It's never easy to lose people we care deeply about.
Oh Bobbi...I am so sad to read this post! I am so sorry for your loss this past week. My goodness...what a difficult time.
I thought of you all on Saturday. It was so beautiful and I was so grateful to know you had a clear and sunny day to gather.
Your photos are beautiful and the 'heron' is really spectacular...itself and in the photo. Herons are peace makers.
It is good that you are thinking of the joy your friends gave you, but remember the joy you gave them too. You are a dear friend to all. Your friends and the joy are one of life's gifts...
My heart goes out to you and Chuck. Know that I am thinking of you and wishing you both love and peace.
Sending you heartfelt and warm hugs from me...~Lisa
To let yourself grieve and to be open to experiencing/honoring both the sadness of loss and the joy of memories is all one can do. Let the heron be your friend and your guide. Love, Robin A.
