July BJP

I keep trying to add something else to this month's piece but nothing is working so I think it's done, lol!
This month I was going for earth...being grounded...our lovely bamboo...and somehow the buddha's eyes got in there too.

Well, I think its a very earthy piece, yet celestial because the blue feels like the sky. Yes, I think this piece is complete. It feels cheerfull too. I think its the blue.

Hope you are doing well.

This is a most lovely piece, Bobbi -- and I think the minimalist approach work to it's best advantage here.

Can't tell how much I like it, right?

I really like this piece. I feel passion from the blues and its shown so simply that I can really look at it mindfully. Im taking Mindfulness Training so Im working on this. I have learned from this course that we need to just honor what we are feeling and not judge. Just watch it, name it and then we dodnt have to feel less then. You are dealing with some major health issues and thats what is. I was going through your blog and really love what your doing, looking for old things and using it. I especially love that orange face piece. Take care of yourself. Julie Cook

When it's done, its done! Sometimes a simply done piece is good on the eyes. This makes the "eyes" really show up too.

I like this - especially the eyes!

It's beautiful, and I love the eyes peering from the bamboo. The spider and fly are perfect, especially at this time of the year when they are everywhere! Lovely colors. Kathy B

Funny but I find it totally celestial. For a moment I thought it was the rabbit on the Moon not the spider on her web which tells me I need new glasses:)

Lovely, terrestrial or celestial I just see peaceful meanderings among the bamboo, and a great sense of color and balance.

The buddha remains hidden, but his eyes peer from the bamboo like a tiger watching from the tall grasses. What could the spider web signify and what about the fly that is caught in the web, yet not yet bound by the spider? Is the orb a sun or a moon? Such a complex and compelling piece, Bobbi! I really love it!

How are you feeling, Bobbi???

Love and hugs, Robin

I forgot to ask about the driftwood... I'm curious about that too. Also the orb (is it a button) was the first thing you put on it... what relationship does it have to buddha's eyes? Such a compelling piece!

Did you sell things at the bead fair?

Thanks for all the great comments...you are really making me think now!

I started with the spider/fly button because this month we have a lot of webs in the garden, both among the flowers and the raspberries....but in looking at it I realize that in some ways I feel like the fly, caught in a web, not knowing just when the spider will come and get me, but knowing it might be soon...on the other hand...after watching a lot of webs, I was surprised to see how many of the flies/bugs/bees caught in them actually get away...but you have to keep on fighting hard...so maybe the choice of the button is a little more complex than I thought at first, eh!

The driftwood just seemed to fit the piece...I wanted something from the ground and the beach and I liked the shape of the wood...but then someone mentioned that the driftwood looked like a snake heading toward the spider and web and I've been wondering what that might mean? Haven't found that yet.

The eyes came from an unfinished pair of fiber/sequin earrings I was working on and when I laid them on the piece, I saw the face and the eyes reminded me of drawings of the buddha's eyes...and I thought you don't get much more grounded than the buddha, plus I'm reading a lot of buddhist writings on impermanence and challenges, so that's how the eyes ended up there.

The bamboo fabric was the first choice I made for this piece and just felt right for this time of year when our bamboo is so lush and green...

And now I'm pondering robin's last question...what IS the relationship between the eyes and the spider web button? I'll have to think aboout that a bit...

(no...decided against selling components at the bead fair...I'm looking for some bezels for the art glass cabs so I can just make some finished work with them...on the advice of a fellow artist.)

Blue bamboo!! It's such an appealing piece. Great job! I've thought about gathering driftwood for some future piece but it will need to wait until early in the fall when I go to my sister's. They have a cabin on a lake with an endless supply of beaver cleaned pine. Yummm! I love the button with the spider and of course the peering eyes.

I really like this page, Bobbi, all of it! Love the buddha's eyes peeking through the bamboo and the spider/fly button. I thought the driftwood first looked like a nose. I remember someone saying it looked like a snake and it does. Maybe it's a branch caught in the bamboo. I showed Mark and asked him what he thought of the driftwood and the first thing he said was entangled. Hmmmm...I thought that was an interesting thought.

I actually enjoyed being late on my comment here. It was nice to read your thoughts on your piece and what it means to you.

It is yet another beautiful page in your BJP! XO ~Lisa

Ah, there's always more there than meets the eye...I really enjoyed your further analysis...and I'm glad you've discovered you can escape from the web...maybe the web is the world and Buddha knows you can escape but is waiting to see if you figure it out on your own, grasshopper -- wax on, wax off
