What ifs and Sage

I was going through some bits and pieces of beadwork yesterday and found this face I'd beaded around and then set aside....I found some fabric that I'd cut up earlier and hadn't used for the basho piece last year and the face looked just right on it....I sure am enjoying couching down the yarn on some of the pieces...there's something so very satisfying in it.

I also found out that the closest place to buy (in person) the DMC cotton perle thread I'm using is portland...I can hardly believe it! We have towns of 50-100 thousand closer but none of them have a needlework shop that carries the perle cotton....lots of them carry the embroidery floss but that's not what I'm wanting....weird! So it looks like I'll have to order it online...I guess it's a viscious circle...the local shops don't carry stuff, so people buy it online and then the local shops go under and you have to buy it online.

Oh...and a photo of our jerusalem sage in bloom...we planted it last year but this year it's really taken hold!

My same complaints about local shops also. I suppose it has so much to do with lack of sales for certain things. Love your face on that fabric. Perfect fit!

Probably the smaller independent shops just can't afford to carry the inventory that would support a larger customer base. If they don't have the money to buy the goods in bulk they can't offer it to us and then we go elsewhere and they still don't have the money to buy the goods we want to purchase! Viscious cycle indeed.

I just found out from a friend that our most local bead shop has apparently shut its' doors - without any kind of notice to customers at all!

It is good that You just found a place for Perle cotton thread as I've often found it hard to find when I wanted it. Usually place that import Teddy Bear fabric have it, but you have to order on line/ or buy a whole box, not just one skein. sigh!

Hi dear heart...finally out and about catching up today.

Your sun man is GORGEOUS...just love him and that fabric you chose is just perfect. I can't believe that no one is carrying the DMC cotton perle thread. That is weird and a shame too! It's not quite the same shopping online as it is in person sometimes...especially when it comes to color.

The Jerusalem sage is beautiful...I haven't seen that one before, Bobbi. Your Hosta plants look happy too!

Heading back to see what I have missed...sending you a heartfelt hug from me...~Lisa

That face you beaded, I think we got a glimpse of it a few posts ago, is simply a intricate work of art. Marvelous.

What a lovely bunch of sunshine this is! I have found perle cotton at our local Michael's store. Don't know why it should be so hard to find.

Thanks for stopping in and posting...I hope I've remembered to tell you that you all make my day!

I'm going to a michael's store in the valley today, just to check...it's not one of their large stores so it may not carry the little balls of perle cotton, but we were making the trip anyway, so it won't be gas wasted if they don't have it.

Your beaded face and that fabric were made for each other! Perfect fit in size and color both.

If you don't find what you need at Michaels, Mindy's Needlepoint in Eugene (541-344-7132) carries DMC perle balls in 8, 10, 20 (some 5s), and skeins of the full line. They have a website, but it seems to be for needlepoint patterns and a few ribbons. http://www.mindysneedlepoint.com/index.htm

(standard "no relation" blurb -- just love that store, LOL)

thanks, kathy! Only found 5 colors at michaels, none of which I needed, so will try mindy's the next time we're in eugene!

If you find you "need" some before you get to Mindys, I could probably be coerced into going shopping, LOL. Like I need an excuse ...

And do let me know if you'd have time for coffee/tea when you're here next.

Love your Jerusalem sage...have always known this plant as phlomis, its Latin name. It can grow to 6 feel tall! Not available in Hawaii...sigh.

Thanks for blogging, I always enjoy reading your entries and am inspired by your designs.
