Just heard back from Lora Groszkiewicz, Editorial Assistant at Bead&Button magazine, and they're not interested in publishing my little seahorses. I'm thinking I'll just go ahead and write up instructions and sell them myself...any opinions on that idea?

Really! Well, maybe that's why I get bored with the magazines after a year or two and quit subscribing for several years at a time!
Mary Tafoya puts her patterns on a web site called: http://www.bead-patterns.com . I have bought patterns from there. You might look and see how they do it or see if you'd like to be part of their listings. Or you could go it alone maybe making a widget/link we could put on our blogs for exposure for you. Just some ideas.

I'm sorry to hear that B&B isn't interested in your seahorse. I think it would have been a unique project for their magazine.
You can sell your own designs/patterns or offer online tutorials for a small fee. There are many options open to you other than a magazine article.
I used to buy B&B all the time but my interest in it has waned the past several months, in part because I feel like their projects aren't as exciting as they used to be. It could be just me and that my interests have changed a lot. Anyway, I think online tutorials is a great avenue for you to explore!

I like your seahorses, but I'm not surprised. B&B seems to be geared more toward very complex jewelry designs. Beadwork also seems to be geared more toward jewelry lately as well, but they are more likely to include non-jewelry project ideas. Maybe you could attach a pin-back and sell that idea? Selling your own pattern is a great idea, as well. Good luck!

I love the seahorses. Paypal has an option for downloading .pdf's that you can install right on your blog here. You definitely should offer it as a pattern and/or class.

I have taught this as a class but without written instructions, as it's a "loose" pattern, which allows students to make their seahorses look quite different from each other. I'm not much for the cookie cutter method of beading...

I think you can make B&B wish they'd made you an offer! They're adorable and with your website and blog, I think you could sell kits and/or instructions. Yeah!
