Another BJP Year Finished

It just all came together this morning...I call it, Goodbye/Hello to Turtle Island.

World on a String
is a great 5 part documentary on the history of beads...our library ordered it on my recommendation and they just love it...maybe your library would like to have a copy too?

This is beautiful! You do such a wonderful job of combining fabrics and beads. And is that some wool roving too? It makes a complete-- and completely beautiful--page.

That is so lovely. Congratulations on a perfect piece. the colors, the shapes- everything is perfect-all the way to the bird, or maybe that is what ties it all together

Just started reading your blog and am inspired by your work! I read back a bit but didn't see anything about the origin of the face you used on this piece. Did you make it? I'm really trying to figure out where I'm headed with using faces...thanks in advance. Absolutely lovely work!

You gave me a great idea, Bobbi! I bought World on a String (so I could see it and to support the endeavour) and have watched/enjoyed it several times. Now I can donate it to our library!!!

I have so many thoughts about "Goodbye-Hello" that I hardly know where to begin. The intertwined path between you and the island is so beautiful, the delicacy and sweetness of all the beading. It's like you hold yourself and the island in such tender regard, like the connection between you and the island is a precious life-line. There's more... something about being wrapped in bright, softness by the hand of the universe, the source or maybe the creator? And then there's the face, not looking at, but turned away from the island. What does that suggest? Is the island an intangible force reached by the traveler's spirit?

Told ya I had lots of thoughts... Thanks for the journey!

marty, it's actually an italian yarn and if I could afford it I'd have it in all their colors....here's a link

Well thank you robin, I think you're the one who first told me about world on a string...so it's nice to think about your copy going to your library..;)

You've given me some ideas to think about...I haven't really processed the last journal piece yet...I just got as far as thinking the abalone reminded me of a turtle...and I've been beading out by an island the last couple of weeks...and turtle island is one of my favorite gary snyder books as well as the native american/first people's name for north america!
I almost titled it, Not Ready to Leave Turtle Island, but that seemed too negative to me. I didn't see the face as turning away from the island, but as looking a bit pensive...maybe even a bit sad? So I added the yarn as both a positive note and because now that we're nearing the end of summer, I want to surround myself with bright colors for the autumn and winter, even if most of them will be inside not outside!
So..your thoughts seem to have clarified mine....thanks!

Very lovely Bobbi. Your pieces always seem so pensive and deep to me yet the colors so light and happy. Me thinks you are a very deep and mysterious woman.

There is so much joy and peacefulness in this piece, Bobbi. I have so enjoyed watching all of your pieces progress during this past BJP year.

And I can't wait to see what you do next year, too!

Good idea! I will ask my library to get World on a String! That would save me from having to buy it. And, the last beading book I asked them to get, 2 of my libraries bought!

And, I saw Part 4 of the DVDs last year, and it was fascinating! :D

Ahhhh...an island....I wasn't sure I saw that at first...what struck me was the infinity symbol with no beginning and no end...and I assumed the face was you and the abalone represented nature....being carried along through time and space...I think the wool roving makes the piece. Congratulations on a great year -- I have enjoyed taking the journey with you. I still have four left to complete so I'm grateful for the next three months.

I really love this piece! It is so special.

I see you and that beautiful island where you go to sit and find peace. All those thoughts on that path that run between you and the island and back again. I adore the bird you included and the colorful roving attached to your hand.

I'm with you...we need to stay surrounded by bright colors for autumn and winter to see us through.

Your pages, as always, are lovely to see and I've enjoyed them all. You are such an inspiration to me!

Sending much love your way...me
