Many "canvasses"

I was running low on the 4x4 pieces for the basho piece, so while making a bunch more of them, I went ahead and did 7 of the 12 I'll need for the bead journal project. They're all 4x6, so just a bit larger than the basho pieces. I've left 5 forms blank, so if I get to a month when none of the first 7 seem to fit, I can add some in other fabrics.
It reminds me of gessoing a bunch of canvas so it will be ready when the muse strikes...although it's been many years since I painted anything except decorative paper and clay faces.

You have some wonderful fabric to work with. Did you back all of these with anything? Just looking at the fabric is incentive to bead away.

hi bg! yes...it's all backed with a fairly thin timtex-like product I got at walmart, I think.

The fabric is beautiful. I'm fabric challenged. Did you dye the fabric yourself? If not, where did you get it? I'm in the Beaded Journal project, and I'm looking for fabric other than muslin.

Thanks.

it was, judi!

any, it's all 100% cotton, commercially dyed batiks from my local quilt store....most of them are from "fat quarters", so it didn't cost an arm and a leg to get a bunch of different fabrics!
feel free to email me if you have any questions...my email addy is in the "about me" feature of blogger.

I know this goes way back, but I have been thinking about your fabric pieces for days. What were the mediums you used to make these, the fabric you started with and so on....they are so beautiful in your art. If you don't mind sharing I would love to have some ideas...thanks

judi...they're simply commercial cotton batik fabrics from my local quilt store. I fused them onto a heavier stabilizer that I got at walmart called, peltex which is similar to a heavy interface called timtex that the quilters use to make their fabric bowls. It's fairly easy to bead on, although I do use a heavier bead needle than I use for my off loom beading. But if you google either peltex or timtex you can see what it looks like. It also comes with the fusing agent built into the peltex itself but I haven't tried that one yet.

Ahhh, quilt fabrics. I thought you may have done them. They are so unusual as opposed to what my fabric store carries. I did start using peltex and it is wonderful to bead on.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my post...
