2 Fish

These two fish
are finally done and going to the gallery next week....I'll put a silk cord on them and they'll be ready to wear...their purchase price will go into the gallery's scholarship fund for art students since so much of the public funds for the arts have been cut.
The faces got sent off on friday for the beaded face swap...I love surprises and can hardly wait to see the two faces that will be living with me...

Love the fishies, BB -- have you read the children's book THE RAINBOW FISH? These fish would be perfect.

Since I generally am a frequent poster to blogs thought I'd let you all know I will be infrequently checking the blogs for a while. Have a very sick dog and spend most of my time with her. Right now I have my lap top actually on my lap while I sit on the floor next to her. Wish her well if you would -- she is such a wonderful dog and just doesn't understand what is happening to her. Thanks friends, Jackie

I love your fish! Might you be able to take and post a close up picture of each of them separately? I'd enjoy seeing more of the detail. Where you you get your sequins? Looks like you have a great assortment of colors.

Oops, I just clicked on the fish picture, and was rewarded by a fully detailed enlargement. They're super! On your next batch (!?), you could give them a suggestion of dimension by cutting out a thin piece of batting slightly smaller than the fish body, and sandwiching it between the bead embroidery and the backing. I like 'em flat too... dimension is just another possibility.

hi, robin! yes, batting would be a great way to make them more 3-D...maybe for next years show I'll do that!
I got most of my sequins years ago from general bead in san francisco...they don't have much on their website, but if you can ever get to their SF store, you may find a lot more variety (unless they've sold them all...)

Thanks for the General Bead tip... I used to buy from them often when I had my little shop (Beads Indeed 1988-98), but haven't been there since. Glad to hear they're still in business.... might just have to visit my bro in Santa Cruz, and check out their current sequins stock while in the area. Have you ever checked out Cartwright's Sequins? They have an awesome supply, but they're not vintage, as I think yours are.

hi, robin! yes, I have seen cartwrights and have a few of their sequins, but I do prefer the vintage ones for the occasional piece I do...actually, I guess I've done more sequin pieces this year than I ever have before...hadn't quite realized it until now...;)

So thrilled I was able to purchase these lovelies from the Gallery. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of two little fishies (not in a pond LOL). They will have a good home, promise.

The fish arrived today and I love them.
They are so much nicer than the photos show and they look great in the photos -- really wonderful, BB -- I'm so happy to have them.
