I've been patiently watching the signs of Spring coming to the back garden....we only have a small window in the house that overlooks the front, so the show is all in the rear. I just finished december's bjp and am now working on january's....I've decided not to buy any new fabric for this year as I have so many beautiful batik's I've barely used. I finally got a start on the last bjp for last year and may have it finished soon. I'm also finding that I'm having a lot of difficulty making a decision about this year's pieces, so I decided to make 12 pin/pendant pieces, all in freeform shapes cut out from 3x3 inch squares. KISS stands for keep it simple, silly and that's what I'm going to be doing in next year's bead journals. In between rain showers we took a drive up the river to toledo and back. There were some huge waves coming in from the ocean....these folks were surfing almost under the bridge, in the entrance to the bay!edited to add: Sadly, a young couple went walking to the end of the south jetty and were swept into the ocean around 1 pm. I just couldn't seem to get started on the nov. bjp, so I switched the fabric and am getting ideas like crazy...inspiration strikes but it can also leave and then working on something is like walking through mud up to your knees! Despite a dark and gloomy morning, this afternoon the sun came out and as I was on my way home from a trip down south to a sunday farmers' market, I stopped at the new park at beaver creek...loveliest visitor center I've seen and the view from the deck is wonderful. A friend suggested making my tiny hand pin/pendants even more attractive to buyers by framing them so they could be wall art when not being worn. This seemed like a good idea so I found some tiny frames I like (5.75x4.5) with a 3x4.5 inside dimension that works so well with the small size of the hands. This month is started with a tiny face given to me by a friend who makes them out of clay and then paints them, plus a dragonfly I made of freshwater pearls and artistic wire...I found this wonderful site that tells about the symbolism of the dragonfly and it really speaks to me as I feel myself drawing closer to death and whatever transformation that may bring.

Well, the weather is still up in the air, lol....skies cleared up late yesterday and this morning I see blue again, but it's not as warm yet. When I first started doing beadwork about 20 years ago, I began with the peyote stitch. I'm taking a short break in my bead embroidery to make myself a right angle weave (RAW) bracelet. I never used to either wear or use much of these colors, especially together, but now I'v got enough clothes in the red/orange/yellow/green ranges to "need" a bracelet to work with all of them.I'll post this when it's done...and then we're on to the september bjp....wow...this summer has flown by!

I'm finding that with the larger pieces (these are 4x12 inches) I do more planning/designing than I do with the more intuitive smaller pieces, where I usually start with a larger focal piece (that usually sets the direction of the piece) and work improvisationally from it. Yesterday was an art and joy filled day...I started out the day at the annual show put on by our local quilt guild, bought a few plants at the farmers market, beaded with a dear friend while gallery sitting and ended the day going up the river to have dinner with friends and watch the river traffic (several rafts, an inflatable catamaran and a beaver) as the fog slowly moved in at dusk. Here's the sample for the class I'm teaching next week...it's a felt cel phone case...lined with fleece, embellished with felt bird, button and MOP button closure and using the blanket edge stitch. I think anyone can finish this project in 2 hours as I will be cutting the case and lining out ahead of time and threading all the needles with perle cotton thread.
