Sebastian...oops, make that Oliver

I, personally, would never name a cat sebastian, but apparently that is his name....go figure!

Maybe now I can get some work done!

Late breaking news...he's changed it to Oliver...I think this one will stick!

and a few more and Done

and time to get back to the Basho series, which has been languishing while I've been putting all my energy into this one...

Reminder

I've been reminded by a friend that I didn't mention how my husband is doing....well, he's very tired and in some discomfort, but he's been walking around since the morning after the surgery...they don't encourage lying about after this kind of surgery (vein replacement). We hope by his follow-up appt. next week he'll be skipping along - or at least in less pain!
In the meantime, I've got a little further on the august bjp and may have it done after my 4 hour stint at our local visual art center tomorrow.
The little cat (whose name isn't Bro, as it turns out) and I sat out on the sun porch this afternoon and I beaded while he dreamed of escaping into the yard again...

Nice Matters Award

I have to thank Jackie of Beadin' Gram for this award....she's a special friend and I'd give her the award too but someone already beat me to it....so I'll pass it along to 3 more folks I've met on the web who have inspired me...but I could give them out all day if I had the time. I find so many delight-full folks on the web, it gives me hope when all the news is black, to know that most people are kind and generous and loving once you get to know them.

But, back to the awards....these 3 gals are extra special...check out their websites and I think you'll agree. They've all inspired me in both their work and their lives.

One to Linda of Born Under a Bead Sign...

One to Janet of Life in Westcliffe...

And last one to Morwyn of Another Country Beadwork...

Back Home

We're home and I've got about 8 hours of work done on the August page (doing the beadwork kept me relatively calm) ...thank you for all the hugs and blessings...they were appreciated!

Abalone

I've got the first two abalone discs bead bezeled and will now put them away for a while. Tomorrow is my husband's surgery...I'll take some bead embroidery with me...and post when we get back home.

Weekend

This weekend we gained a new family member....his name is Bro, because I'm hoping Sumi will treat him like a beloved little brother (not a pest!)...this is as close as they've gotten in the past two days without a whole lot of hissing going on....I think in the end, her curiosity and wanting someone to play with will overcome her territoriality and jealousy...I hope!
Also went to the pow wow and found some awesome abalone disks...I chose them because of their back sides and am going to bezel a number of them before combining them into one neckpiece.
Here's the front (back) of the first one...taken with both my lumix and my casio...the actual piece probably falls somewhere in between the two pics. The black beads go from size 11 to 18 and I used both RAW and peyote for the bezel.

August BJP

I won't start working on this until a couple more august events happen...the pow wow next weekend and my DH's surgery the following week...but I've already got the fabric ready and have started collecting elements...the silver flower pendant from a trip to a neighboring town and some red flowers and MOP rings from the wedding we attended last weekend and of course, the face for this month. But I might change her...I'm not sure she's the one for this month.

Silk Flower Pouch

I don't usually sew (with a machine) since I seem to possess the ability to wreck thread tension just by taking the cover off a sewing machine, but this seemed like such a simple project, I thought I'd give it a try. I was thinking it might work for the silk purse trade in the fiber art traders group, but it's turned out to be too tiny....of course, that's what I like about it, so I'm rather glad I can just keep it.

Done for the moment

This is as far as I can go with this one...it has to sit awhile, but I think it may be done...oh, I forgot to mention that the two larger pieces are shells I found at a local beach with large holes in them, the gems in their centers are fluorite and there are FW pearls in there also...this piece is all aboout the beach for me, so I hope Basho gets to water sometime, LOL!

Basho

Got a little further along with my basho piece and have just signed up for a silk purse trade on fiber art traders. This is another great group of talented women and this is my first trade this year...if anyone wants to see what trades they've been up to, you can check out the latest issue of Quilting Arts magazine and an article by Normajean Brevik on PSI's (plus size inchies)...

Swarovski Earrings

I made some earrings this weekend with tiny 3mm Swarovski crystals and 3mm Czech fire-polished beads for the core....the colors are so much better than I can capture...it's very frustrating! But, I guess anyone who knows Swarovski, knows how great they are and will probably understand how difficult they are to photograph.

Latest Basho

Here's the beginning of the latest piece in my Basho series...I did this one bass ackwards...instead of working from the book, I'm doing this one and then looking to see which entry it will match when I'm done with the bead work!
Hey, if it doesn't work, I have a small wall piece to frame or sell on Etsy!
Win/Win scenarios....don't you just love them!
